The main attractions of Kotor are concentrated in the Old Town, which you can explore in a day, although it's easy to get lost in its labyrinthine streets. Many tourists use the Cathedral of St. Tryphon with its two snow-white bell towers as a landmark, visible from afar.
The city is surrounded by impressive walls, towering 20 meters high, with a length of about 4.5 kilometers and a thickness of 16 meters. You can enter Kotor through one of three gates: Sea, River, or Gurdic. Inside the walls, you'll find the Princely Palace, where Venetian viceroys resided and worked, the Gregurin Palace (now housing the Maritime Museum), the Church of St. Luke, the Clock Tower, the Pillar of Shame, and the Cathedral of St. Tryphon. Above the city, on a hill, once stood the Venetian fort - St. John's Fort, the ruins of which you can climb to for panoramic views of Kotor and the surrounding mountains.
Kotor is renowned for its festivals, attracting not only residents of Montenegro but also visitors from abroad. Festivals like the KotorART arts festival, children's theater festival, carnivals, and folklore festivals are vibrant events that draw thousands of people to Kotor.
