City Transportation

The most popular form of public transportation in Bergen is buses. Tickets can be purchased from vending machines (e.g., at the airport arrivals hall or at the bus stop) or from the driver. The fare for adults is 27 NOK, while children under 15 years of age and pensioners aged 67 or older pay 14 NOK. All tickets are valid for 90 minutes from the time of purchase.

Tourist Tips

Bus 100 (running from Olav Kyrres Street to the bus station) is free of charge. To save money on other modes of transportation, consider purchasing a pass for one or more days, priced at 110 and 205 NOK, respectively.

Even better, you can opt for a Bergen Card, which grants you free city transportation, museum visits, parking, and excursion discounts. Bergen Cards are available for 200 NOK (24 hours) or 260 NOK (48 hours) at the tourist center.

Bybanen is a city tram connecting the center and the southern parts of the city. The line includes 15 stations, including the railway station, bus station, Brann club soccer stadium, Edvard Grieg house-museum, and Fantoft church. Tickets are priced at 27 NOK but can only be purchased from machines.

The Fløybanen funicular operates year-round, transporting numerous passengers to Mount Fløyen daily. A round-trip ticket costs 80 NOK.

Ulriksbanen Cable Car: In just 3 minutes, tourists cover the 1120 meters separating the student house Haukelandsbakken from the summit of Ulriken. The ticket price for an adult is 145 NOK.

Taxis in Bergen are relatively expensive, with an initial boarding fee of about 30 NOK (35 NOK after 19:00 and on weekends) and a charge of about 11 NOK per kilometer of travel.
