Customs in Peru

Peru's basic customs regulations.

Peru's customs is considered to be quite loyal. Tourists will not encounter any special difficulties while crossing the border.

But this country has its own peculiarities, too. If you're over 17 years old, the list of things you can take on an airplane to Peru includes:

  • 400 cigarettes or 50 cigars
  • 100g of tea and 500g of coffee
  • 250 ml of toilet water or 50 ml of perfume
  • Medicines with a prescription
  • Personal use items up to a maximum of PEN 10,500

If you're wondering how much alcohol you can bring into Peru, local law allows you to bring no more than 2.5 liters of alcohol or 3 bottles without further declaration. At the same time, alcoholic goods with a strength of more than 60% are allowed to bring into the country only to persons who have reached the age of 20 years. Local legislation does not regulate how much alcohol can be taken out of Peru.

The list of things that are forbidden to import/export from Peru includes:

  • Explosives
  • Weapons and ammunition
  • Drugs
  • Products containing milk and meat
  • Chocolate candies

In addition, it is prohibited to take out of the country objects of cultural heritage without presenting a special certificate. To take out souvenirs, leather and fur goods you must have a receipt. Peru does not have a Tax Free system.
