Praslin is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean and belongs to the Republic of Seychelles. It is a small island named after a French politician. It can be spelled Praslin, Praslin, Praline or Pralen. Its history goes back to the distant times when Arab traders and pirates came here, and later - European navigators.
In 1744, the island was discovered by the expedition of Lazarus Pico. Then it was simply called Palm Island. In the XVIII century, the French used it as a staging post. In 1768, the navigator Marion du Fresne gave it its modern name.
Despite its modest size, it is one of the largest islands in the archipelago. It is only 11 km long and 4 km wide. In the south of the island there is a national park of the same name, which is definitely worth a visit, even if you plan a trip to Praslin on your own.
The relief is predominantly mountainous, due to which the nature here is truly unique. The Praslin Rainforest has been preserving its pristine appearance for several million years, making it an attraction in its own right. The fact that the island has been uninhabited for a long time has helped to preserve its unique nature.
