Liptovský Mikuláš was founded in the 13th century, and a hundred years later it became a significant economic center. The history of Liptovský Mikuláš is closely connected with the political twists and turns of the country and can be found in the historical museums of the region. Not far from where Liptovský Mikuláš is located is the Low Tatras Nature Park. The town is named after its patron saint, and there is also a church of St. Mikulasz.
The Liptovská Mara reservoir offers opportunities for lovers of water recreation. The cultural center of Liptov includes many sports facilities, museums, restaurants, and even a full-fledged water park. Since 2009, the currency of Slovakia has been the euro (EUR).
