A safe vacation in Cape Town

One of South Africa's most popular attractions is "European Cape Town," where a plethora of security cameras, national police units, and a fine selection of hotels, as well as high-end cafes and restaurants, can be found. Safety in these Cape Town neighborhoods is of utmost importance.

When strolling along Long Street and Greenmarket Square, exercise caution in regard to pickpockets and street beggars, the majority of whom may belong to criminal gangs (it's advisable not to give them money but consider buying food for the beggars instead).

It's important to maintain general precautions by keeping your belongings secure at all times and out of sight, including phones, bags, and other valuables.

While Khayelitsha, Nyanga, and Gugulethu are considered Cape Town's most dangerous areas, it's worth noting that even the world-famous Table Mountain can be targeted by robbers. To stay safe from knife-wielding robbers, it's advisable not to go alone, especially on weekend evenings, and consider visiting the sights as part of organized tour groups.
