St. Mary's Cathedral (La Seu)

The main symbol of Palma is the majestic Gothic cathedral that towers over the sea. It took almost 400 years to build, and every detail is a work of art. Especially impressive are the huge stained-glass windows and the Gaudi-designed chapel. From the observation deck on the roof, you will get a breathtaking view of the city and the bay.

The most interesting places in Palma

Palma is capable of surprising even those who visit it not for the first time. There are famous sights from the tourist guide, and unknown secluded corners. We tell you what to see and where to go when you run out of ideas!

Streets and squares

If you have at least 2 days to spare, we recommend strolling along Passeig del Born boulevard with plane trees, trendy boutiques and sidewalk cafes. A good place for evening relaxation. And for leisurely shopping and beautiful photos against the backdrop of ancient facades you should definitely walk along San Miguel Street.

Museums and exhibitions

We definitely recommend visiting the Museo de Mallorca, a classic historical museum with installations dedicated to the archaeology, art and history of the island since antiquity. Cool temporary exhibitions are often held at the Casal Solleric Cultural Center.

Temple architecture

Palma is simply a paradise for lovers of religious architecture. There are no classical Orthodox churches or churches, but there are Gothic, Baroque and Arabic motifs.

  • The Church of St. Eulalia is a historical landmark. It is one of the oldest in Palma, with Gothic elements and a cozy square in front.
  • The Basilica of St. Francis is notable for its beautiful facade and peaceful courtyard.
  • The Montesión Church is an interesting mix of Gothic and Renaissance, tucked away in the center of the old town.

Parks

Palm is green, warm and ideal for strolling. Relax in the shade in the Parque de la Mar at the foot of the cathedral or in the shady garden at the Almudaina Palace. Small public gardens throughout the city are also a great way to escape the heat.

Monuments

There are no giant monuments in Palma, but there are some interesting monuments and sculptures:

  • Monument to Jaime I - the king who liberated the island from the Moors.
  • Monument to the hearse - a modern and slightly surreal creation.
  • The sculptures at Es Baluard are modernist art in its purest form.

Theaters

Palma's main theater, Teatre Principal, has been in operation since the 18th century. It hosts operas, ballets and dramatic productions. The Auditòrium de Palma is the main venue for world-class shows and concerts. The cozy stage of the Trui Teatre has become home to children's and adult productions.

Entertainment

Palma has a good aquarium with a tunnel and an exposition dedicated to coral reefs. Kids and teens will love the rope park near the town. For shopping and relaxation, the large Porto Pi shopping center is excellent.

Harbor of Palma de Mallorca - Photo

Palma is a city where history and sunshine go hand in hand. It's easy and pleasant to get lost in the alleys, fall in love with the architecture and find inspiration even in a cup of coffee on a warm terrace. Each landmark is not just a building or monument, but a part of the island's living and vibrant history. And most importantly, there is always something to visit and somewhere to go!
