The coastline of Hikkaduwa features a continuous stretch of beaches, with the city itself nestled along this picturesque shoreline. Most of the hotels in Hikkaduwa are conveniently located right along these beaches, ensuring easy access to the sea for all visitors.
One of the most prominent beaches in Hikkaduwa is the central beach known as Naigama, which extends in front of the southern part of the city, where many hotels are situated. While the sea here may not always be perfectly calm, it's suitable for swimming, although the waves might not appeal to everyone. However, Naigama Beach is highly regarded by surfers, and it serves as the hub for surfing activities, making it Sri Lanka's second-best surfing destination.
A bit further north, you'll find a tranquil cove with much calmer waters. This area is referred to as Hikaduwa Beach or Hikaduwa Coral Reef. Close to this location is the Hikkaduwa National Park, a marine park from which most boat tours embark. The only downside to this beautiful beach is its popularity, which attracts a large number of vacationers.
