Gstaad continues to uphold its ancient traditions. In 1577, the town witnessed the founding of its first hotel. The history of Gstaad extends back to 1904, when the inaugural railway was constructed, connecting the town to Chateau d'Eau. The crème de la crème of society began congregating here in 1913, coinciding with the construction of the first luxury hotels and chalets.

Every corner of this ski resort is adapted for comfortable rest, so for budget travelers, this area is probably not suitable. The town has a permanent population of about 7,000 people.
