Leukerbad is renowned not only for its ski slopes but also for its thermal springs, which some sources suggest may be the oldest in the Alps. In the early 20th century, European aristocrats sought treatment here for conditions like rheumatism and gout. Today, the resort boasts several spa centers and clinics staffed by doctors from various specialties. Winter sports enthusiasts will find 15 well-equipped trails with varying levels of difficulty, covering a total length of approximately 50 kilometers. Most are suited for confident skiers and snowboarders, including some steep slopes for extreme skiing. Beginners can learn the basics of skiing at the Ski Area Erli training area, conveniently located near the Leukerbad Sports Center. There's also a snow park with a half-pipe above Rinderhutte. In the vicinity of the resort, cross-country ski enthusiasts can enjoy about 25 kilometers of trails, with the main part concentrated around the Gemmi Pass and near Lake Daubensee. Other activities available include snowkiting, sledding, and hiking with snowshoe rentals available (about 40 CHF for two hours). For those who prefer indoor activities, there's a sports center featuring squash and tennis courts, a fitness center, an ice skating rink, and a soccer field.
