The climate in Koh Samui differs significantly from other parts of Thailand, making it a year-round vacation destination with a tropical climate.
Koh Samui experiences three distinct seasons: the rainy season from October to December, the dry season from January to March, and the hot season spanning April to September.
Rainfall can occur at any time in the tropics, often beginning at night. However, during the rainy season in Koh Samui, rainfall increases significantly, leading to extended periods of rainy weather that can last up to 5 days without respite.
In Koh Samui, the rainy season replaces what locals call "winter," although it doesn't feel like winter to us with temperatures around +30°C. During this time, the skies are usually overcast, making it the ideal period for a vacation in Samui.
The hot season can be scorching for tourists, especially from April to June when the sun is intense, and temperatures typically stay above +35°C.
June and July offer a more comfortable climate once the peak tourist season subsides, but temperatures remain similar. Consequently, accommodation and services are much more affordable during this time.
September isn't an ideal month for a Samui vacation. The first half is acceptable, but the second half ushers in the rainy season, bringing prolonged bad weather to the region.
