Types of transportation in Antalya
Buses
Buses in Antalya are comfortable and modern. Boarding is only through the front door, where a terminal for fare payment is located. If you have bulky luggage or a stroller, you can ask the driver to open the central door for you.
Transport stops exclusively at bus stops, although not at all of them. Inside the bus, there are several special stop buttons that you can press to notify the driver that you need to get off.
For first-time visitors to Antalya, it can be challenging to understand bus routes and how to use them correctly. This is due to the large number of routes and the limited information available at the stops.
Therefore, it is very advantageous to have a mobile package with internet access – you can use the very convenient "Antalyakart Mobil" or "Moovit" applications. These apps provide a lot of useful information about bus schedules and routes.
By the way, there are signs or inscriptions with Latin letters and numbers on the front windshield. These letters indicate the destination and origin of the transportation vehicle:
A-Aksu;
C - Çarşı;
D - Doşemealtı;
F - Tıp Fakültasi;
K - Konyaaltı;
L - Lara;
M - Masadağı;
T - Terminal;
U - Unkalı;
V - Varsak.
The most popular flights among vacationers are No. 600 and No. 800, following from the airport and back.
Dolmuşes
For trips to other settlements, it is better to use small white minibuses called "dolmuş." You can catch them directly on the road; it is not necessary to look for a bus stop. To get off, you can either shout "dur" to the driver, which means "stop," or prearrange the drop-off location and fare.
Trams
Antalya is served by two municipal tram lines.
AntRay
AntRay is a branch of the light rail tram system. Its route runs through the central part of the resort and connects the districts of Aksu and Fatih. You can quickly reach popular destinations such as:
old city;
air terminal;
bus station;
large shopping malls;
EXPO exhibition hall.
The fare is paid by Antalyakart card only.
Nostalji Tramvayı
The Nostalji Tramvayı is a small tram line with a length of about 4.7 km. It covers the entire coastline, starting its journey from the local Archaeological Museum, along the Konyaaltı Beach and park, and ending on the eastern side of the Old Town.
The Nostalji Tramvayı is popular among tourists as it passes by notable attractions in Antalya such as:
Hadrian's Gate;
Kaleichi district;
Yivli minaret;
Hidirlik tower.
Also, sitting on this tram line, you can get to the most famous and populated hotels.
Schedule transport from 07:00 to 23:00. On Sunday, the schedule is shifted forward by an hour. Transport runs every 30 minutes.
Taxi in Antalya
Taxis in the resort area are easily distinguishable from other vehicles by their yellow colour. They are modern cars, and there are a large number of them in the city. It is easiest to catch a taxi by:
near shopping centres;
at the airport;
at the bus station.
Taxi services in Antalya are available 24/7. Interestingly, the city has designated spots with installed call buttons for taxi services. Typically, the wait time is short, around 10 minutes. All yellow taxis are equipped with meters. The fare is calculated individually and depends on the distance travelled.
The cost of the taxi fare is calculated based on the following factors:
In Antalya, you need to pay 4 TRY for getting into a car.
Each next kilometre will cost 3.6 TRY.
Night trips are carried out at a rate 1.5 times higher than usual.
In areas where people gather, you will find information boards that display detailed taxi fare information. Additionally, it is possible to negotiate a fixed price instead of relying on the meter. This option can often be more cost-effective when travelling to destinations outside the resort city.
If you are planning group trips or travelling with children, it is advisable to pre-book a transfer. You can easily arrange this by contacting a taxi service, and they will provide a vehicle with the necessary seating capacity and child seats if required.
Public transportation in Antalya is both convenient and efficient. Once you familiarize yourself with the routes, you can effortlessly navigate the city and fully appreciate its attractions.
