U.S. Customs operates under its own rules, somewhat different from those in Europe.

What you can bring on an airplane to the U.S..

  • Any amount of national currency with declaration of amounts over 10000 USD
  • 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 4.4 pounds (2 kg) of leaf tobacco
  • Personal items (including not only clothes and shoes, but also a camera, laptop or tablet, cell phone, baby stroller, and so on) within reasonable limits
  • Gifts up to 100 USD per person

What is not allowed to be brought into the U.S.

  • Fresh and canned meats (including poultry)
  • Meat, eggs, feathers, hides, tusks of wild animals
  • Plants and seeds (exception - flowers without soil in the presence of a phytosanitary certificate)
  • Fruits and vegetables (including grapes, apples, tomatoes)
  • Fish and uncanned caviar
  • Dairy products and eggs
  • Samples of soil
  • Mollusks and snails
  • All types of drugs and narcotic medications
  • Medicines that have not been certified by the U.S. federal drug agency
  • Rare and endangered species of animals and birds; their skins, eggs, skin, tusks, bone (including ivory, turtle shells, crocodile skin); articles made from them
  • Military weapons (edged and firearms)
  • Poisonous substances and poisons
  • Explosives
  • Materials (printed and electronic) with extremist content
  • Absent
  • Cuban cigars

How much alcohol can be brought into the U.S.: Up to 1 U.S. quart (946.3 ml) of hard liquor or 2 quarts of low-alcoholic beverages.

How much alcohol you can take out of the U.S.: up to 3 liters of any beverage.
