Customs in Austria

Before traveling to Austria, it is important to familiarize yourself with the customs regulations. Here is a list of the main restrictions:

1. Tourists have the right to bring personal items into Austria duty free. The number of imported items and belongings is generally not limited. The permitted quantity is determined by the duration and purpose of the trip.
2. It is allowed to carry no more than 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 250 grams of tobacco, 2 liters of wine, as well as no more than 1 liter of spirits with an ethyl alcohol content of more than 22% and 3 liters of beer through Austrian customs. The goods listed above are allowed to be imported by tourists only if they are over 17 years of age.
3. The list of what you can take Austria on an airplane also includes tea in the amount of 100 g, coffee - 500 g, 50 ml of perfume, gold and jewelry, the total weight of which does not exceed 500 g.

If you are interested in what is forbidden to bring into and take out of Austria, this ban applies to meat and dairy products, including chocolate. It is completely prohibited to import drugs, pornography, firearms, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, cold weapons, rare and endangered plants, animals and birds, various products made from rare and endangered species of plants and animals.

At the airport, if you have an existing receipt, you can get a refund of value added tax - tax free. The receipt can be issued when purchasing goods exceeding 75 EUR. It is presented together with the purchased goods when going through the entire customs control at the airport.
