In order that the vacation in Austria was not marred by unpleasant factors, tourists should know a few basic facts about this country:
- Smoking is prohibited in many public places in Austria. If you see a person with a cigarette, a policeman may reprimand you. Buying cigarettes in Austria is also quite difficult; in many stores and places of public catering, they are simply not available. They are sold either in large supermarkets or in specialized vending machines.
- Austria is known for its nudist beaches. All of them have a specialized designation - FKK.
- The most popular means of transportation in Austria is the bicycle. It is perfect for sightseeing or exploring the mountains.
- In bars, cafes, and restaurants in Austria, it is customary to leave a tip. How much to leave is up to you, but it is customary to leave 5-10% of the amount of your order listed on the bill.
- Buses and all streetcars in Austria run regularly and frequently, every 15-30 minutes from 4:30 am to midnight.
- Austria has reasonably priced taxis, but hailing one on the street is simply impossible. It is better to call a taxi to a restaurant or hotel, or you can use taxi services at one of the special parking lots.
- Currency is best exchanged in banks, as they offer the most favorable rates.
