Although it is a small resort town, even inexperienced skiers know where Kaprun is. It has an area of just over 100 square meters and a population of almost 3,000. It belongs to the federal part of Salzburg, and is also part of the European Sports Region. The Kaprun glacier rises to a height of 3203 meters. Austria's currency is the euro, as the country is part of the Eurozone.
It's hard to say when Kaprun was founded. The provincial town never played any significant role in Austrian history, so there are few references to it. But the 600-year-old medieval castle and the ancient church on its grounds suggest that Kaprun's history stretches back through the ages. The resort gained its skiing popularity in the 60s of the last century. Since then, it has grown year after year.
