Getting to Paraty from the Airport
If you're driving from Rio de Janeiro in a rental car, take the BR 101 (Rio-Santos) highway and head south. There's an almost straight road for about 250 kilometers.
From Galeão Airport in Rio de Janeiro, you have several transportation options:
- Taxi: You can take a taxi directly from the airport to Paraty.
- Bus: Bus number 2018 runs every half hour from Galeão Airport. It travels to the central bus station in the center of Rio de Janeiro, Santos Dumont airport, and the southern parts of Rio along the coast, ending at the Alvorada bus station in Barra da Tijuca. Ticket counters for the bus service are located in the arrival area of both airport terminals. From the bus station, you can continue your journey towards Paraty.
- Tourist Bus: You can book a tourist bus in advance, which can take you from Rio de Janeiro to Paraty and back. This option may cost around 400 BRL if not included in a tour package. Individual transfers from Rio can start at least 1000 BRL, while a regular shuttle bus typically costs around 100 BRL.
