Paraty is a small tourist town full of Brazilian and foreign bohemians. If the locals are open and friendly, guests may be different. But this advice is the same for most towns of this type.
Paraty is reasonably safe. You are unlikely to be attacked, even in the evening. All hotels have security guards, as do the restaurants. You shouldn't carry large sums of money, and if the hotel has safes, leave valuables there. On most beaches, the infrastructure includes a lifeguard service. In case of trouble, you can contact the police or the nearest security guards.
