Cambodia's sea vacations are a pleasant complement to the country's rich sightseeing program. A vacation on the beaches of Cambodia will be more comfortable if you carefully study the bathing conditions, the presence of dangerous animals in the warm tropical water, and the tide schedule, which is quite fastidious in these parts.
Dangers of beach vacations in Cambodia
There are many wild beaches that are studiously not recommended to visitors due to the fastidiousness of the Gulf of Thailand. The treacherous undercurrents and various marine life of the Indian Ocean are dangerous enough to target tried-and-true resorts. And there aren't many of them.
Worth going on a beach vacation to Cambodia with kids
We don't recommend traveling to Cambodia with small children, let alone going on a wild beach vacation with them. If you're traveling with a child, go for the best hotels and official beaches.
Best beach resorts in Cambodia
The best seaside vacations in Cambodia will be in Sihanoukville, Kep, and several islands.
Unfortunately, in both Kep and Sihanoukville, the beaches can be less than clean.
Ko Rong Island
First up is Ko Rong, which is not difficult to get to from Sihanoukville. Boats run regularly in both directions. Accommodation and transportation should be booked in advance. Prices for accommodation here are not too expensive, but it is quite ascetic and simple. On average for a bungalow, you will pay 10-25 USD. A tour to Cambodia with a vacation at sea is also possible on the island of Koh Rong Samloem. Both islands have good diving, and the sea is clean.
Sihanoukville
Sihanoukville, or Kampongsaom, is considered the most famous resort in Cambodia. It is referred to as the "Coastal City" or the "Fisherman's City." The resort, located on a peninsula in the Gulf of Thailand, is known for its sandy shores framed by palm groves. The beaches of Victoria Beach, Hawaii View, Independence Beach, Sokha Beach, Serendipity Beach, and Ochheuteal are quite famous. There's water skiing, fishing. Diving is quite present, but it is better to go to the islands.
Kep
Kep is a resort town in Cambodia on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, 25 kilometers southeast of Kampot. It is a krong, meaning it has the status of a provincial town. A former popular resort in Cambodia, it was a vacation spot for the French colonial elite until the 1960s when Sihanoukville was built. The long years of civil war left little of its former opulence.
Today, Kep is slowly opening up to travelers again. There are fewer visitors, great views, and the best crabs on the coast. A boat trip and a day on the beach of virtually uninhabited Rabbit Island is also one of the highlights Kep offers its guests.
