Despite its relatively young age, in addition to its official name in honor of an Indian chief, the city has received a host of nicknames for its various outstanding characteristics. Its abundant precipitation and frequent drizzle has earned it the title of "Rainy City". Sea cruises and flights to Alaska depart from Seattle, for which it has been dubbed the "Gateway to Alaska." Since it is home to Boeing, it is sometimes referred to as "Jet City." And that only fuels tourist interest in it.
