The most famous resort of Georgia, Borjomi, is located in the Borjomi Gorge, along the bottom of which the Kura River flows. Once upon a time, the settlement of Borjomi and the surrounding watchtowers, erected on the slopes, were designed to protect the gorge from enemy attacks. But already in those days, the healing springs of Borjomi were actively used. This is evidenced by the remains of stone baths, preserved in Borjomi.
Glory of the healing region came to Borjomi in 1816, when its springs were recognized as healing. After that, the settlement began to develop, hospitals began to be built, and the aristocracy, mainly Russian, reached Borjomi. At the beginning of the 20th century, Borjomi fell into decay, but already in 1921 it received the status of a city. And the aristocracy in Borjomi has become frequent already Soviet.
Borjomi springs are perhaps the most accessible for travelers. The pump rooms are located directly in the Central City Park and you can drink from them for free. And nearby you can take sulfur baths in a nearby source just as free.
In Borjomi there is a sanatorium "Borjomi Gorge", where you can undergo a course of medical procedures. There are also two spa hotels. Five-star hotel Rixos and four-star Borjomi Palace Hotel and Spa.
