Tourist route through Nuremberg

We will suggest the best places and routes for walking in Nuremberg.

Like any other old European city, sightseeing in Nuremberg begins with the historic center, known as Nürnberge Altstadt. It is surrounded by walls that were built in the Middle Ages and partially restored after the war. The old town is divided into two parts by a river, and both parts are named after the churches located within them.

So, starting your walking tours in Nuremberg from the historic center, in the northern part of the city, you can visit Dürer's House, the Market Square, and the Town Hall, and take a stroll along the ancient streets. In the southern part, you will find museums, shopping streets, restaurants, and hotels.

 ancient streets, Nuremberg

Explore the churches of Our Lady and St. Lorenz, and don't miss Dürer's House and Nassau House - the latter being the last "residential tower" in the city, as there were many such buildings in the 12th-13th centuries. Another interesting structure is the House of Pilate, located near the St. Sebaldus Church.

Nearby is Tucher Castle, built of sandstone in the first half of the 14th century. The castle houses a museum dedicated to the lifestyle of affluent residents in the late Middle Ages.

Fortress, Nuremberg

Continue your walking routes through the northwestern part of the historic center by passing through the Tiergärtnertor gate. Walk along Burgstraße from the central market and you will reach Burg, a fortress from the 11th century located on a cliff. Throughout its history, the fortress has never been captured.

From the observation platform (2 EUR for admission), you will have a wonderful panorama of the Old Town, and this platform is one of the most popular spots for group photos among tourists. Right on the fortress wall, there is an exit to the park, which is a beautiful place for both romantics and pragmatists, as the park offers a great view of the fortification system.

Fountain in Nuremberg

And what would a walk in the city be without a visit to the fountains? In addition to the central fountain, be sure to see the epic "Marriage Carousel" on Breite Gasse, the Fountain of the Virtues on Königstraße, and the fountain on Rathausplatz, which once made a lasting impression on Ludwig II and Johann Goethe.
