Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate, the weather in the city enjoys more than 250 days of sunshine a year. Therefore, Corfu's weather can hardly be called capricious: even if the forecast for 14 days promises rainy weather, the precipitation is likely to be short-lived. Another thing is the off-season, which begins in November and ends in March. At this time the weather in Corfu can be rainy for a whole week.
The vegetation and fauna of Corfu
The symbol of the town is the kumquat tree. They are everywhere here. Besides the little orange kumquat trees, Corfu also has a lot of olive trees. By the way, there are about 3-4 million of them on the whole island, according to the most conservative estimates! Also cultivated in Corfu are pears, apple pomegranates, figs, grapes, loquat, opuntia and even bananas. There are also rare plants such as wild orchids (over 50 varieties).
According to naturalists, the island is home to 40 species of dragonflies, 83 species of butterflies, 64 species of crickets and grasshoppers, many species of beetles, mantises and geckos. Scorpions and turtles are occasionally seen. On the beaches, however, you'll find a sea urchin under almost every rock.
The voices of songbirds can be heard everywhere in the groves in spring. Many locals keep canaries in their homes to enjoy their wonderful singing all year round.
