The most popular tourist routes in Corfu Town are walking tours of the Old Town. Here Byzantine temples are juxtaposed with Venetian lanterns and staircases, French quarters with medieval fortresses that protected the capital from enemies in ancient times.
We recommend to start the walk at the foot of the new fortress, where a memorial in honor of Admiral Ushakov is installed. Then it is worth visiting the main church of Corfu, where the relics of St. Theodora Augusta are kept, pass into the heart of the medieval Venetian town, see the "pearl" of Corfu - the church of St. Spyridon (you can visit it during the hours when the casket with the relics is open). Then it is worth going to the local Rue d Rivoli (French Rue Liston), the largest square in the Balkans "Espianada", the old Venetian fortress. Visit the famous Byzantine church of two saints - disciples of the Apostle Paul - Jason and Sosipater. And in conclusion, walk around the ruins of the ancient Corinthian city, climb to the Kanoni observation deck with a marvelous view of the whole southern part of the island, visit the white monastery on the water or take a mini boat cruise to "Pontikonisi" where you can see the church of the XI century.
Be sure to take photos against the backdrop of the San Giacomo Theater, built in 1663, and for dessert, head to one of the coastal taverns - a glass of traditional Greek wine seems twice as delicious when it is illuminated by the setting sun.
