If you think that renting a car is too expensive for your trip, you can safely use the public transport in Gallipoli.
As throughout Italy, a very convenient fare system for tourists operates here: a single bus ticket, valid for 75 minutes from validation, costs 1.10 EUR. A longer ticket — valid for 100 minutes — costs about 1.30 EUR. During this time, you can make multiple transfers. So, public transport prices in Gallipoli are quite affordable.
Note that it’s best to buy tickets in advance at vending machines or tobacco shops near bus stops. A ticket purchased from the driver costs 2 EUR, so it's best for tourists to get them ahead of time — why pay more?
For nightlife lovers, the resort offers a special kind of transport. Two night buses run along the Ionian coast from Lido S. Giovanni and Otranto (departing from the port). They travel throughout Salento, with the final stop being a lively nightclub. The fare is about 6 EUR and includes the entrance ticket to the club.
