The azure waves already allow swimming along the coast in May, when the water warms up to +17 °C. From that moment, its temperature gradually rises as summer approaches. By June, the water temperature in the Ionian Sea near Taormina’s coast reaches +21 °C, and in July–August, it feels like warm milk — +24–25 °C.
Even at the beginning of the velvet season and in mid-autumn, the Ionian Sea maintains a temperature of +19–21 °C. Only in November does it begin to gradually drop, making sea bathing impossible. By late autumn, the water cools down to +19 °C, and in winter it stays around +15–16 °C.
The swimming season in Taormina lasts from late spring to mid-autumn. Thanks to the mild climate and lack of sharp temperature swings, the sea remains comfortable for swimming for nearly half a year. June and September are especially pleasant for vacationers, with fewer tourists and warm waters.
