Basic information about Verona

Basic information about the population, national currency, history and geography of Verona.

Verona is located in the northeastern part of Italy. The city is situated on the banks of the Adige River, which has flooded Verona several times. This problem was resolved after the construction of the Moro-Torbole tunnel. Now, if necessary, water from the Adige River is diverted through the tunnel into the nearby Lake Garda.

The city has a population of over 260,000 people. Verona, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracts more than 3 million tourists from around the world each year who wish to witness a city with a history spanning thousands of years.

The national currency of Italy, including Verona, is the euro (EUR).

The exact founding date of Verona is not known. However, it is known that in 90 BCE, it was a Roman colony. During the Roman rule, the city flourished, thanks to its advantageous geographical location.

At the beginning of the XV century Verona came under the jurisdiction of Venice, and at the end of the XVIII century it was divided between the French and the Austrians. Finally, in 1866 the city became Italian again.
