There are five historical regions in the Republic of Lithuania. They differ in dialects and cultural traditions. We have collected for you these names of Lithuanian regions and their peculiarities so that you can define your individual itinerary.

Aukštaitija with its national parks and museums belongs to the eastern and southern regions of Lithuania. These regions are full of clear lakes, colorful villages and dense forests.

Ziamaitija combines the northern and western regions of Lithuania. This land is famous for its gentle picturesque hills and marvelous architecture. Visit its unofficial capital Telšiai and the potters' town of Vekšniai.

Dzukia is considered a true land of wilderness. Dzukia National Park and the town of Rumshishkes are located here. Many blacksmiths, potters, carpenters and other craftsmen live in the region.

Suvalkija is located in the southwest of Lithuania, beyond the Nemunas River. It is a land of fertile land and forests. Travelers visit Vilkoviše district to see the Vishtiti Regional Park. Tourists also love the town of Marijampole.

Small Lithuania is the fifth ethnographic region. It includes the Klaipeda region, stretching along the Baltic Sea and the lower reaches of the Nemunas River. This is where Klaipeda and the famous Curonian Spit are known to visitors. The first printed book in Lithuanian language was published in Lithuania Minor and the first Lithuanian school was established.
