Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857 on the site of a small settlement of Hakka, Chinese tin miners. Memories of those times are preserved only in the authentic name of Kuala Lumpur. Since 1880 the city is the capital of the Principality of Selangor, since 1946 - the administrative center of the British colony, since 1983 - the capital of the state Malaysia.
