Security in Kuala Lumpur

The main danger for tourists in Kuala Lumpur is robbers of all sorts - migrants from Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan, who are attracted by the opportunity to not just find, but take away their "happiness".

Possible "scenarios" of attack include: purse snatching by motorcyclists, robberies at ATMs, pickpocketing, etc. The most common locations for robberies are in the center of the capital: Ampang Park, the Twin Towers area, and the escalators of the respective subway stations.

There are just a few tips for personal safety in Kuala Lumpur: withdraw money from ATMs in shopping centers and large restaurants, keep your bags on the shoulder away from the roadway, keep valuables and money in a safe, and always ask police officers for identification before providing your passport.

Malaysian authorities also advise avoiding so-called Chinese hotels, which are brothels and places where drugs are sold.
