The diversity of traditions and nationalities is reflected in the abundance of dining options. From traditional Chinese and Indian cuisines to exotic North African cuisines, Penang offers a wide variety of cuisines.
Unfortunately, we failed to find specialized Russian restaurants in Penang. Penang is deservedly called a culinary paradise for the abundance and variety of food, a huge number of inexpensive restaurants and cafes.
Conditionally we can divide all Penang's catering offers into three large groups. The first group is represented by fashionable restaurants, usually at luxury hotel complexes, which have a long tradition and a great variety of menus.
Typical of this group are Penang's best restaurants Opera, Via Pre, Madras New Woodlands, Heaven Gate Restaurant & Lounge, Dining Room in Georgetown and Feringgi Grill, Tree Monkey in Batu Ferringi. Here you can enjoy not only Asian but also Western European and American cuisines. The restaurants in this group deserve nothing but praise, which is typical of Penang's dining scene.
The second group consists of inexpensive cafes and small family restaurants offering a menu consisting of dishes from one or more related national cuisines. These include Mama's Nyonya cuisine, Tek Sen, Kapitan, East Xiamen Delicacies, Jaya, Sri Ananda Bahwan, China House in Georgetown and Bora Bora by Sunset, Long Beach Cafe The Spice Market Cafe in Batu Ferringi.
The third group of establishments are the so-called food courts. These are rather large areas where street stalls with food of various directions and types are installed. The most famous food courts in Penang are Red Garden, Gurney Drive, New World Park.
Prices in Penang restaurants are quite reasonable. If you don't take expensive meals, the average check at a restaurant will be between MYR 9 and MYR 15. Prices at cafes and food courts are even more attractive. Pepper chicken will cost you MYR 7.5, rice with spices and vegetables will cost MYR 3. A cup of tea costs MYR 1.5, a glass of juice costs MYR 3-4. A plate of fried rice with seafood will cost 6 MYR. The cost of food varies between Georgetown and the beach villages. In the beach areas in the north of Penang, food will be a little more expensive, although you should have no trouble finding a budget meal.
