Oslo Attractions

Places that every tourist must visit, in our review.

Many people visit the capital of Norway on a "comprehensive" express tour of the Nordic countries. But if you want to see all the sights of Oslo, give the city at least 2-3 days.

So, what sights does the Oslo sightseeing map suggest we visit? There are quite a few in the city.

Karl-Johan Street, the central street in Oslo, deserves special attention. Here's a brief description of the sights you'll see in this neighborhood:
  • King's Palace;
  • Cathedral;
  • Norwegian Parliament - Storting;
  • National Norwegian Theater;
  • Grand Hotel and Grand Cafe, where the famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch once liked to spend his free time. If you are interested in art, visit the Munch Museum in Oslo (entrance - 75 NOK).

Every Oslo sightseeing map includes Akershus Castle and Fortress, built in the early 13th century. In 1527 the castle burned down, but was rebuilt. Akershus has been open to visitors since 1976 (admission for adults is 70 NOK).

The Vigeland Sculpture Park, which includes the park itself (30 hectares), the Vigeland Museum and the capital's historical museum, is a must-see. It is one of Oslo's most famous landmarks. Photos from the park, which features more than 220 unusual sculptures, are consistently delightful.

Based on the fact that Norway is a "ski country", the list of "Oslo Attractions" includes Ski Museum and ski jump "Holmenkollen", which is the highest point in the city (entrance to the museum and the observation deck - 110 NOK).

Museum lovers should definitely visit the Bygdøy Peninsula Museums. There's the Fram Museum, where you can see a unique Norwegian ship, and the Kon-Tiki Museum, dedicated to national hero and intrepid traveler Thor Heyerdahl.

Most of the city's temples have not survived to this day, but when researching Oslo attractions with names, you will come across mentions of the Old Church of Akra, St. Olav's Monastery, and St. Hallvard Cathedral. All of these structures are recommended to visit.

If you're in Oslo in the summer, visit Operahuset, the Opera House, where you can watch the filming of various concerts for free. Also, check out the Town Hall, the city's city council building, where the Nobel Prize winners are awarded each year on December 10.
