Remains of ancient structures and artifacts have been found at archaeological sites throughout the city.
The map of Carvoeiro with attractions includes the Ancient Cemetery of Jazida, the Epipaleolithic area of Lageal, the Epipaleolithic and Neolithic settlement of Mato Serrão, the Paleolithic and Neolithic colony of Salicos, the 12th- and 13th-century Alcaria Padre Vicente tool room, and the ancient settlement of Carvoeiro, located near the current resort. The ancient settlement, according to historians, was of Moorish origin. Here was built a protective wall and castle Carboiere, which was mentioned in an anonymous chronicle of the Frankish Crusade in 1198.
A map of Carvoeiro with sights will tell the tourist how to get to the west side of the city, where the ruins of the old destroyed fort are located. The fort was erected in 1670. Only the fort's gates have survived to this day.
Another Carvoeiro landmark, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Encarnação (Chapel of Our Lady of the Incarnation), is located nearby. The construction of the chapel, which faces the sea, preceded the construction of fortifications.
The fortifications of Forte de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação include small ruins of the fortress and the eastern wall, where the hermit's hut was located, as well as a later financial outpost building from 1870.
A landmark of Carvoeiro is the Alfanzina lighthouse, consisting of a main rectangular central block connected to a hall and side wings. The lighthouse's central circular tower has a spiral staircase and is decorated with Portuguese tiles.
Carvoeiro's national architectural monuments include the Igreja Matriz church in Lagoa. However, the earthquake and subsequent tsunami of 1755 severely damaged the building. After rebuilding (19th century), the door (in the Manuelino style) and the 16th century baroque altars were preserved.
