The cuisine of Alicante, like any city that combines the traditions of the mainland and the coastal part, is very extensive and diverse. The trends of the national cuisine of Spain came to Alicante from the mountainous regions of the province.
Traditional Spanish motifs are manifested in local meat and vegetable dishes. But not only meat is honored here. National seafood dishes in Alicante are no less common than mainland cuisine.
It is not easy for a tourist to answer the question of what to try in Alicante. We advise you to try local paella, cold gazpacho soup (it can be bean or tomato) and such amazing dishes as salamares a la romana - squid in Romanesque style or solomillo en reducción de vino - sirloin stewed in wine. And for dessert, order traditional churros - a sweet fried pastry made of choux pastry, sprinkled with nuts, powdered sugar or drizzled with syrup. Don't forget to try hot waffles and soft ice cream.
