The Sierra Nevada mountain range is located in Andalusia and stretches from southwest to northeast for 80 kilometers. The highest point is Mount Mulasen with a height of 3478 meters. On its northern slope lies the southernmost avalanche glacier in Europe, from which the Henil River originates. It is the third highest mountain in Western Europe after Etna and Mont Blanc. The entire area around it is the Sierra Nevada National Park.
The range was formed in the same period as the European Alps. Weekend trips to Sierra Nevada are popular not only among tourists, but also among Spaniards. And no wonder - the weather conditions here are simply unique. On the slopes - snow-covered downhill trails, but at the foot - the Mediterranean climate with its warm weather and sunny days.
The ski resorts of Sierra Nevada offer 124 slopes of different levels with a total length of more than 105 km. The altitude difference exceeds 100 meters and the slopes are very varied. They are also known for the excellent quality of snow cover, which is highly appreciated even by experienced athletes. There are tracks for cross-country skiing enthusiasts.
In 1996, the World Championships in winter sports were held here, and it was then that tourist trips to Sierra Nevada began to gain popularity. To this day, competitions are often held here and some of the trails are closed. Keep this in mind.
