The sub-equatorial climate in Kalutara ensures warm weather for tourists throughout the year. Even at night, temperatures rarely drop below +25°C, and daytime temperatures typically range from +26°C to +30°C, depending on the season.
Like many resorts in this climate zone, Kalutara experiences distinct rainy and dry seasons. The period from October to April is considered the high season when the weather is hot, and rainfall is minimal.
From May to August and again from October to November, the resort transitions into its rainy seasons. Due to the mountain range in the central part of the island, the southwestern region of Sri Lanka, where Kalutara is situated, receives monsoons that bring significant moisture. During the rainy seasons, showers in the resort mostly occur at night and are relatively short, lasting about 15 minutes each. However, this period is characterized by strong gusts of wind.

While tourists often associate Kalutara with the famous Ceylon tea plantations, the island boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The wildlife in Kalutara is incredibly diverse, with the region being home to at least 86 species of birds and various other animals. National nature parks in the area provide habitat for pelicans, peacocks, leopards, elephants, and a range of other wildlife species. Additionally, Sri Lanka serves as a vital stopover point for approximately 150 bird species during their seasonal migrations from Europe, Scandinavia, and Siberia. In the months of March and April, the forests come alive with flocks of migrating butterflies, creating a stunning natural spectacle. The island is also inhabited by numerous reptiles and other fascinating creatures.
