Getting to Kalutara
There are several transportation options to reach Kalutara:
- If you're staying at a top-rated hotel, they often provide a shuttle service directly to your accommodation.
- Alternatively, you can use taxi services available at the airport.
- Car Rental Caution: Renting a car is not advisable unless you have considerable driving skills. The island's left-hand drive is exacerbated by local drivers' virtual total disregard for the rules of the road.
- Bus Service: There's a bus station located to the left of the airport. A free bus service operates from there to the Averivada bus station, a journey that takes approximately 10 minutes. From Averivada, toll buses depart every 20 minutes to Colombo.
- Train Journey: Upon reaching Colombo Fort station, you'll need to locate a train heading to Kalutara, which typically takes around half an hour to reach the resort. It's recommended to purchase a ticket for at least 2nd class, as the cheaper 3rd class carriages can be crowded with locals.
These transportation options provide convenient ways to travel to Kalutara.
