The population of Jumeirah - about 30 thousand people: Arabs, Pakistanis, Europeans, as well as guest workers and service personnel, who make up at least 70% of the total population of Dubai.
The national currency is the Arab dirham (AED).
A little bit of history
Jumeirah was founded, like Dubai, in the early 19th century. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, but the modern look of Jumeirah began to take shape only 30-40 years ago when major oil fields were discovered in the emirate.
Fishermen and traders once lived and worked in Jumeirah - now, like the rest of Dubai's indigenous population, they don't work, they just enjoy life. Today's Jumeirah is an upscale neighborhood of the world's richest city, with incredibly ambitious projects along its coastline, including the artificial island of Palma, entire neighborhoods of ultra-modern skyscrapers, and some of the world's most famous hotels.
