The city does not boast a low crime rate, but with the usual precautions, tourists feel safe. Of course, it is worth avoiding ethnic neighborhoods or at least not walking there at night and alone.
Take care of your car if you’ve rented one — car theft is the most common type of crime in Atlanta.
Also, do not leave your belongings visible inside the car and stay alert in crowded areas, especially near MARTA stations and tourist attractions. Downtown is generally safe during the day, but in the evening it’s best to use taxis or official transfer services.
