Dulles International Airport. Dulles is located 42 km west of downtown Washington, Virginia, in the United States.

How to get to downtown Washington, DC from Dulles Airport

The bus stop is located in front of the main terminal near Gate 4.

Bus

The Washington Flyer Coach buses are available from the airport to the center. The ride from the airport is to the West Falls Church subway station.

  • Trip time: 20-30 minutes.

  • Cost: 10 USD. You can buy a ticket from a vending machine on the airport grounds.

Bus + Metro

The MetroBus #5A takes you to L'Enfant Plaza or Rosslyn metro stations. To get downtown, you need to take the MetroBus (Blue Line) to the station - Nw 14th St & Nw R St, detailed route available at website.

  • Cost. A bus ticket costs 7 USD and can be purchased at the ticket office located inside Terminal 4 or at special terminals. Subway fare is between 2 and 5 USD (depending on how far you travel).

  • Schedule. Buses from the airport to the city run Monday through Friday from 5:45 to 22:15 and on weekends from 7:45 to 22:15, more details here. Transportation runs every 15-20 minutes.

  • Trip time. The trip to downtown will take about 40-50 minutes.

Car Rental

All car rental companies located at the airport are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz, National, Sixt, and Thrifty. Free shuttles operated by each car rental company will shuttle customers between the rental location and the Terminal.

Cost. The price for a mid-range car starts from 48 USD.

Taxi

How to get to Washington DC train station and bus station from Dulles Airport

Trip time to the Washington DC train station and bus station is about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Bus + Metro

On the 5A bus line, you need to first get to the stop - N Moore St & Rosslyn Station. Then on the subway take the blue/orange/silver line, the stop you need is Metro Center. At this stop, transfer to the red line, which will take you to Union Station (bus & train station stop).

How to get to downtown Washington, D.C. from Ronald Reagan Airport

Washington Ronald Reagan National Airport is located in Virginia, Arlington County, about 7 km south of downtown Washington, DC. Of the airports serving the city, it is the closest to the center.

Bus + Metro

The bus stop is located across from the terminal exit.

Route. On exiting the terminal, take any "Airport Shuttle" bus. At the "Terminal B/C" or "Parking Garages B and C" stop, you will be on a covered bridge that exits to the Metrorail station. From that station, you need to take the yellow/green subway line and ride to the downtown stop, U Street/African-American-Amer Civil War Memorial/ Cardozo.

  • Trip time is about 30 minutes.

The trip is 10 to 20 minutes long.

Location of cab stands:

  • From Terminal A, exit the baggage claim hall and turn right. Cabs are located on the curb closest to the Terminal.

  • In Terminals B and C on the first floor, near the exit, you will find a clearly marked cab drop-off point.

Transfer

Bus + Metro

How to get to downtown Washington, DC from Baltimore Airport

The Baltimore/Washington International Airport named after T. Marshall is located 65 km from the center of the city. T. Marshall International Airport is located 65 km from the city center. Travel time by car is about 1 hour.

Public transportation

Trip time to the city center is about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

  • You'll first need to take the Bus Shuttle service from the airport to Bwi Amtrak/Marc Station.

  • From this station you need to take the fast train PALMETTO to Union Station.

  • If you're headed to the heart of Washington, DC, you should take the Metro and use the Red Line to get to the downtown stop - K St NW & 17th St NW.
