Safety in Buenos Aires

A distracted tourist can fall victim to pickpockets and scammers. To avoid this, be especially careful in crowded areas. Don't change currency out of hand. Keep an eye on your bags, wallets, cameras and mobile devices (including in cafes).

Do not display large sums of money. Do not walk by yourself in the outlying areas of the city, particularly the slums and dangerous areas of La Boca. Although this is a colorful tourist area, there are places that are unsafe to enter - don't ignore the warnings of local police officers.
