Traditional Istrian dishes are prepared from the local gifts of the land and sea. In the restaurants of Poreč, when ordering a meat dish, it usually comes served with potatoes cooked "under peka" - over coals, under a cast-iron lid. Try the jerky with the funny name pršut, sheep cheese, sausages like kulen and češnovki.
First courses are soups based on beef or chicken broth with vermicelli, dumplings, or rice. The most famous of them are maneštra (liquid stew with corn vermicelli and beans) and čorba (based on fresh fermented milk products).
The proximity of Italy has left a trace in the traditions of Croatian cuisine, and that's why the main dishes in Poreč include various types of pasta: fuži, gnocchi, plućanci, or pasutizi, served with žgvacet - a sauce made of chicken, beef, or game.
During the summer in the restaurants of Poreč, you can always find greatly cooked fresh sea wolves, dorado, monkfish, sardines, and numerous shellfish. If you complement the meal with a wonderful local wine, it makes for the perfect dinner.
