General information about Punta Cana

The beautiful Punta Cana is situated on the eastern part of the island of Hispaniola, along the east coast of the Dominican Republic, specifically in the province of La Altagracia. This prestigious resort is positioned 150 kilometers away from the capital of the Dominican Republic and spans an impressive 420,000 square meters. While Punta Cana is home to about 100,000 residents, many of them lead modest lives. However, this doesn't hinder the resort's popularity; it continues to attract an increasing number of vacationers each year, with an annual growth rate of approximately 6%.

What draws visitors to Punta Cana are its pristine 32-kilometer stretch of white coral sand beaches, the crystal-clear waters of both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, and the near absence of strong winds. The local coral reefs captivate diving enthusiasts from around the globe, making it a favored destination. Along the resort's shores, you'll find picturesque coconut palms, and if you venture inland, you'll discover lush mangrove forests.

The name of the resort speaks for itself - in translation, Punta Cana means "meeting place of palm trees". Punta Cana was founded in the 1970s. Small hotels and other buildings began to appear on the place of deserted jungle, all of them in the "tropical" style. These are low houses made of palm and bamboo. All of them are no further than 80 meters from the water.

The architecture is a mix of Dominican and Spanish culture. This is because most of the hotel owners are Spanish. By the way, the official language in the country is Spanish. And 95% of the population is Catholic.
