Cuisine in Punta Cana
Although Punta Cana is on the coast of the island, fish dishes are not favored here. Seafood prices are too high. But Punta Cana's national cuisine offers plenty of meat dishes. Mostly goat meat, as the rainforest is populated by feral European goats.
National dishes in Punta Cana surprise Europeans with familiar ingredients in unfamiliar combinations and flavors. Virtually every restaurant menu includes dishes such as la bandera (a stew with rice, vegetables, red beans, and deep-fried green bananas), san cocho (a broth made with various vegetables and several types of meat), comida criolla (rice with beans and chicken stew), and taino (fritters filled with fish or meat). But you can find restaurants in the resort that offer Chinese, Japanese, and European dishes.
What you should try in Punta Cana is the famous Dominican rum of Bermudez, Barceló, and Brugal. It's used in cocktails that taste amazing. For children, there are plenty of different milkshakes, most often based on freshes.
