Customs in Fiji: what you can and cannot take with you

On the whole, Fiji's rules are quite logical and generally do not pose serious difficulties.

What you can take on an airplane to Fiji

Foreign currency: You can carry any amount of dollars, euros, or any other currency, but it must be declared to avoid customs issues on your return.
Fijian dollars: If you have the national currency of Fiji, you can bring it with you in any amount, but remember to declare the full amount.
Tobacco products: If you are at least seventeen years old, you can carry up to 250 tobacco units in any form, which can be 250 cigarettes, 250 cigars, or 250 grams of tobacco leaves.
Personal items: The only requirement for your luggage is that its total value must not exceed 400 FJD (200 USD).

What you are not allowed to bring to Fiji

Firearms and ammunition: This rule, common to all countries, is applicable in Fiji as well.
Narcotics: It is illegal to bring narcotic drugs or raw materials into Fiji. If you require narcotic preparations for medical purposes, ensure you have a prescription and a doctor's note.
Earth, stones, and minerals: None of these can be brought into Fiji to protect the unique volcanic nature of the islands.
Food, meat, and dairy products from Tasmania: Fiji has strict restrictions on food products from Tasmania.
Biological specimens and tissues of human and animal origin.

What you are not allowed to take out of Fiji

Plants and animals recognized as protected in Fiji: You cannot take any protected species of birds and animals out of Fiji, nor can you export products made from their bones, skins, coral, etc. If you plan to bring souvenirs made from such materials, be sure to obtain the necessary permits.

How much alcohol you can bring into Fiji

You can bring 2.25 liters of cognac, whiskey, or other spirits, or 4.5 liters of wine or beer with you to Fiji.

How much alcohol you can take out of Fiji

Fiji does not limit the amount of alcohol you can take out of the country.
