To make your trip comfortable and successful, you should know some things and follow certain rules:
1. Before tasting local fish species, check with locals to see if they are poisonous. Serious toxins are found in the flesh of some Fiji fish.
2 Be careful when swimming. Sharks and various poisonous organisms are found around the coast of Fiji. Even an encounter with a sea urchin can be very painful. If you are pricked or bitten by someone you don't know, don't hesitate to go to the hospital.
3 Be sure to use repellent. Mosquitoes in Fiji carry tropical fever.
4. It is recommended to have cholera, typhoid, polio and hepatitis B vaccinations for traveling to Fiji. There is some risk of these diseases, although less each year.
5. Keep in mind that Fiji's mains voltage is higher than ours, with 240 V in the sockets. And the typical plug here has three pins. So, in order not to ruin your equipment and not to be left without charging, use adapters.
6. In Fijian culture, tipping is absent as a phenomenon, with the exception of large restaurants, where you can tip the traditional 10% of the check. If you want to thank the porter or maid at the hotel, it is better to give a small souvenir.
7. If you want to save a lot of money on your trip, you can stay at a campground. Then your costs will drop by two or three times.
8. Banks in Fiji open at 9:30am and close at 4:00pm. The exception is Friday, when banks close an hour earlier than usual before the weekend. The only 24-hour bank branch is at Nadi Airport.
9. There is little point in renting a car in Fiji, as there is a road only to Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
10. Among the most common types of agriculture in Fiji is the cultivation of coconuts. As a consequence, coconut milk and coconut products are plentiful and relatively inexpensive in Fiji. So it makes sense to partake of this vitamin product while on vacation.
