As a ski resort, Les Arcs was founded in 1960. The initiative came from French tourism manager Roger Godino together with local mountain guide Robert Blanc. The very first development was a small village built in the heart of the mountains at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level. Later, this small settlement was expanded with new constructions located at 1,800, 1,950, and 2,000 meters.
The national currency here, as in the rest of France, is the euro (EUR). The resort area is considered one of the more expensive ones, so when planning a trip here, be prepared to spend a considerable amount of savings. Regarding the history of Les Arcs, the ski complex was built based on preserved designs by Charlotte Perriand, regarded as a follower of the constructivist architect Le Corbusier.
