The coastline of Saint-Malo stretches for almost 30 kilometers, although the equipped beaches occupy only eight of them. Vast expanses of pristine ocean sand, cozy coves, sand dunes, and cliffs delight visitors’ eyes.
For a wonderful seaside holiday, here are the best beaches in Saint-Malo:
The Grand Beach (La Grande Plage) is located about 3 kilometers from the city walls. From here, you can enjoy the most spectacular view of Saint-Malo. Some sections of the Grand Beach have their own names — Le Sillon, La Hoguette, and Rochebonne.
Right next to the city walls lies the most popular beach — Bon Secours. Its fame comes from the sailing school and the large seawater swimming pool. Opposite this beach is Grand Bé Island, where the famous French writer Chateaubriand is buried.
A cozy natural bay, protected from ocean winds and perfect for swimming, is Le Havre Beach. This spot is also known as the “Swiss Lake.”
When deciding which beach in Saint-Malo to visit, keep in mind that all the beaches are sandy, relatively uncrowded, and well-equipped. You’ll find everything you need for a relaxing day — kiosks with drinks and ice cream, sports equipment rentals, umbrellas, and sun loungers.
