Getting to the city center
Hamburg Airport is located near the city, making it easy to reach the city center. By transfer or taxi, the journey takes about 15 minutes, while public transportation takes around 20-25 minutes.
Public transportation
The most cost-effective and convenient way to get to the city is by train, but buses also operate in the area.

The public transportation in Hamburg is operated by HVV. Tickets can be purchased on their website.

In the arrivals area, there is an Airport Office where tickets are sold. The office is open from 06:30 to 23:00.
Train
You can reach the city center and the main train station by S-Bahn suburban train.

Where to find: Follow the "Trains" signs that will lead you to the train station located beneath the terminals.

Travel time: 25 minutes.

Operating hours: From 04:30 to 00:30, trains run every 10 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the morning and evening.

Destinations: The train goes to the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) and the city center, with the Jungfernstieg station being the next stop after the main station.

Ticket cost: The fare is 3.2 EUR for adults and 1.2 EUR for children (up to 14 years old). It's more cost-effective to purchase a day ticket, starting from 6.5 EUR for adults and 2.5 EUR for children. Tickets can also be bought at the train station (red ticket machines).
Useful to know! At the Ohlsdorf junction, the train splits, with some cars heading to the city center and others to the north of Hamburg. Pay attention to the announcements of the stops.
Bus
In Hamburg, several day buses and night buses operate to the city center. Day buses include numbers 292, 114, 23, 26, and 39, while night buses include numbers 274 and 606. There are two bus stops within the airport due to its high volume of passengers. The buses from both stops go in the same directions.
Useful to know!
If you plan to stay in the city for several days, the Hamburg Card can be useful. With the card, you can travel on public transportation for free and enjoy a 50% discount on major attractions.
You can also use the Hamburg Card for a free transfer from the airport to the city. The card is valid from 00:00 to 06:00. The price for a one-day card is 10.5 EUR. You can order the card on this website.
Transfer
A convenient and fast transportation option. You can book a transfer on the KiwiTaxi website. The driver will pick you up at the airport upon your arrival.
Cost: Starting from 74 EUR per car (1-4 passengers). The price depends on the car class.
Taxi
The taxi rank is located near the exits of the first and second terminals.
Cost: Starting from 30 EUR per car. Additional charges may apply for luggage, trips on weekends, or additional passengers.
Important! Taxi drivers may overcharge. Order a taxi from official providers and make sure the driver starts the meter.
Car Rental
If you don't plan to stay in the city for the entire vacation, we recommend renting a car. Rental counters are located in the arrivals area of the second terminal. Renting a car at the airport may be more expensive, so it's better to make an online reservation. For example, on the rentalcars service.
Cost: Starting from 73 EUR per day per car (up to 4 passengers). The longer the rental period, the lower the price.
Getting to the Train Station and Bus Terminal
The Hauptbahnhof train station and the Zentral Omnibus Bahnhof bus terminal are located next to each other. You can reach them from the airport by train. Refer to the information above for train schedules and fares.
