During a long vacation, sooner or later there comes a day when you get tired of simply lying on the beach doing nothing. That is when it is worth going on a bus excursion around Neos Marmaras.
First of all, we recommend visiting the historic village of Parthenonas. This settlement existed until the 20th century, but with the emergence of Neos Marmaras, the village quickly became deserted as residents moved to the town. Since 1968, Parthenonas had been considered completely abandoned, but 12 years later history enthusiasts gave the village a new life. They restored the old houses, built roads, and opened an ethnographic museum in the former school. Today, sightseeing tours from Neos Marmaras are organized there.
Personal guides in Neos Marmaras are quite common, and they can easily arrange an exciting trip for you to the small island of Kelifos. Because of its relatively small size — about 1 sq. km — it received its name, which in Greek means “shell.” Here you can admire steep cliffs covered with pine forests.
